Draymond Green vs. Dillon Brooks is the petty NBA rivalry we need right now

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning. Here’s Charles Curtis.

I swear I’m not going to do the “BACK IN MY DAY THE NBA WAS CHIPPY AND GUYS HATED EACH OTHER THAT’S HOW IT SHOULD BE!” thing.

But I will say this: The NBA has a lot of friendships and respect between competitors. Sometimes, it results in players teaming up, which is always fun.

A petty, hate-filled rivalry, though? Even more fun. And thanks to Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green, we’re getting that in spades.

Brooks — the Memphis Grizzlies player known for some dirty play — recently spoke about how he dislikes Dray (and the Warriors, but we knew that!) and Green went right back at him, calling Brooks a “clown” who was “not a champ.”

Whew. And here’s the best part: The two of them played each other on Thursday and naturally, this escalated, with the two getting in each other’s faces.

And then there was smack talk after the game. Lots of it in which Brooks called out Green, saying he didn’t get “into physical altercations with [his] teammates.”

This is the best thing. We need more of this from these two. And the best part is: If the playoffs started today, the Grizzlies and Warriors would play each other in the first round.

YES. MAKE IT HAPPEN NBA GODS.
