Dramatic Edinburgh drone footage shows trailer going up in flames on bypass

Shocking footage shows smoke billowing into the sky from a lorry trailer which went up in flames earlier today.

Cops in the capital reported that a trailer was on fire near the Calder junction on the A720 with emergency services attending the scene late into Thursday afternoon.

In the aerial footage filmed from a drone you can see the several emergency service vehicles spaced out around the burning vehicle.

As the footage zooms in the burnt out shell of the trail then becomes visible.

Hero fire fighters are still at the scene and local residents have been asked to keep their windows closed.

At 11:50 the A720, Edinburgh City Bypass eastbound reopened but will remain closed westbound for some time, with drivers urged to use alternative routes.

A police Scotland spokesperson said: "Locals in the Wester Hailes and Sighthill area of Edinburgh are asked to keep their windows closed at the moment, due to an on-going vehicle fire on the A720, Edinburgh City Bypass."
