Donald Trump has further outlined a timeline for the war in Iran, claiming his administration is “finishing the job” and that US forces will withdraw from the region “very soon”.
The US President provided the update in a press briefing this morning, telling NBC News that he believes the Middle East crisis will conclude when his military leaves Iran by the end of this month.
“All I have to do is leave Iran and we’ll be doing that very soon,” Trump said when asked about a timeline for lowering fuel prices. “Now we’re finishing the job. I think in two weeks or maybe a few days longer, we’ll do the job,” he said.

Trump claimed the US would exit the war “within two weeks, maybe three”, adding to comments earlier in the briefing where he insisted the crisis is “coming to an end”.
In the same press conference, Trump repeated his claims about the success of the US-led operation in Iran, saying his military was “doing great” and had “knocked out” Iranian forces and secured “regime change”.
Whether or not Iran agrees to a deal is “irrelevant” to the US’ withdrawal, Trump said.
“We’re negotiating with [Iran] right now. We have had regime change. I had one goal: they will have no nuclear weapons and that goal has been attained,” Trump said. “Whether we have a deal or not is irrelevant.”
Trump later said Iran is “losing” the war and “begging to make a deal”, despite Iranian officials maintaining that no such negotiations are in motion.
“There is no truth to the claim of negotiations with any party in Iran,” Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, told Al Jazeera this morning, adding that the country has “not sent any response” to Trump’s plan to end the war.
Earlier this week, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country has “the necessary resolve to end this war” provided its condition of no further attacks is met.
“We need the necessary guarantees to prevent a recurrence of aggression,” Pezeshkian said.
The Trump administration has already claimed that an end to the war is near in the four weeks since the US and Israel launched the joint attack on Iran.

In early-March, he said the assault would last a month, before White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told people to “rest assured” because “there is a plan” to end the war.
Trump has lashed out at allies, including Australia, over their involvement in the war.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sent missiles and defence support to the United Arab Emirates at the start of the attack, but stressed Australian personnel are not engaged in any “offensive action” against Iran.
Earlier this week, Albanese said he’d “like to see is a time frame” for an “end point” to the war and pushed for a “clearer objective” on the US’ part.
