Donald Trump officially turns Oval Office ‘stupid’ with help of an Etsy-coded disaster

President Trump has just given the outside of the Oval Office a bizarre new look, and the internet is completely losing it over the questionable aesthetic choice. This week, CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins shared a photo on X confirming the installation of a new sign above the doors to the Oval Office, and honestly, you can’t make this stuff up.

The sign itself reads, “The Oval Office,” rendered in a gold cursive font that looks like it belongs on a wedding invitation. This sign is reportedly a decal, and one of the biggest aesthetic issues people are spotting is that the off-white border surrounding the gold lettering doesn’t even match the paint color of the historic building. While we know the president has been busy with other renovations like the construction of his new ballroom, this particular addition is raising eyebrows for all the wrong reasons.

I have to say, this looks totally out of place. This isn’t just a tacky choice; this is awful for the highest office in the land. It’s like someone ordered it off an Etsy store for a last-minute party. Naturally, the internet immediately jumped on the design, comparing the new look to several places known for their specific, sometimes over-the-top, decor.

It just feels like we’re selling out

The immediate reaction was hilarious. Commenters flooded social media with comparisons, arguing the font and style looked exactly like the logo for the Golden Girls or perhaps a slightly less glamorous eatery. One user perfectly summed up the vibe, saying the style was “giving Cheesecake Factory.” Another popular comparison was that it resembled a “wedding reception at the Marriott,” which is just brutal but totally accurate.

Beyond the questionable aesthetic, many users quickly noticed the sign seemed to be incredibly cheap, lacking the quality you’d expect from White House decor. Whether President Trump meant for the sign to be this controversial or not, it’s definitely achieved full-blown meme status. The internet is having a field day creating endless photoshopped versions, complete with fake sponsors and plenty of disbelief. It looks like this gold, cursive decal is going to live on in viral history.

The jokes didn’t stop at interior design critiques, either. Political strategist Chris D. Jackson reposted the photo and used it as an opportunity to mock the transparency of political funding. He suggested that if the president was going to put up a “stupid sign,” he should at least “note who it was bought and paid for by while you’re at it.” Jackson then photoshopped a fake tagline underneath the sign reading, “Paid for by Elon Musk and Chevron.” This is just the kind of sharp political humor that thrives on social media.

The highest-profile political figure to weigh in was the Governor of California, who decided to get in on the meme action. The Governor’s office pressed out a photoshopped version of the sign that replaced the standard text with the words, “Live, Laugh, Lose.”

This is a top-tier political burn, perfectly riffing on the cheesy, inspirational home decor signs that the cursive font evokes. Some users even started joking about the president’s age, suggesting he might be labeling everything in the White House due to memory issues.
