Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok will open its new 24-hour Automated Border Control (ABC) passport gates for departures on Thursday.
The opening follows a trial period in mid-February when the gates were available only from 7am to 7pm.
To ensure smooth usage, passengers should check eligibility requirements before using ABC gates:
- Must be at least 120 centimetres tall
- Passport must be valid for at least six months
- New passports must be at least 14 days old before using the channel
- Carry-on bags, including extended pull-handles, must not exceed 120cm in height.
Who should use manual gates?
- Pregnant women, for safety and convenience
- Travellers who need a passport stamp, as the automated gates do not provide a physical stamp; records are stored in the system.
More automated gates were being installed to meet the target of 31 units available across the airport by April.
The upgrade is among changes to better facilitate international travel, reduce congestion during peak hours and improve passenger management, the government said.
