Dominik Szoboszlai decision made as Liverpool get transfer boost and Man United agree fee for target

With every passing day, the 2023/2024 Premier League season edges closer.

Having previously endured an underwhelming campaign, Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp will, undoubtedly, be hoping to bounce back strongly for what promises to be an extremely competitive campaign as each team begins to strengthen.

Talks between Arsenal and West Ham over a deal for Declan Rice seem to have been taking place for an eternity, while Chelsea appear to be focused on reducing the size of their squad before bolstering Mauricio Pochettino's options.

Despite seeing a number of key figures linked away from the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City will be expected to compete for all trophies once again and Manchester United appear to be on the verge of adding Mason Mount to the Old Trafford ranks.

Newcastle United, the team that beat Liverpool to fourth and a Champions League spot last season, should not be discounted either under an ambitious regime.

Manchester United

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount, according to The Athletic.

The two clubs have been locked in talks for a while now, with the deal thought to have reached a standstill earlier this week, as the Blues refused to budge on their asking price.

However, it looks like Erik ten Hag has got his man. The report claims that the England midfielder could cost United up to £60 million, due to a base fee of £55 million and the potential of £5 million to be reached in add-ons.

It is now thought that Mount will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the Red Devils prior to a deal being confirmed. His Chelsea contract expires next summer and the 24-year-old is keen to depart West London.

Arsenal

With Manchester City having pulled out of the race to sign Declan Rice, you would be forgiven for thinking that Arsenal would complete a deal for the West Ham United captain swiftly.

However, to the frustration of Gunners fans, discussions are still ongoing between the two clubs with reports claiming that the sticking point is the payment structure Arsenal are offering.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the deal is still being worked on at this current time despite Arsenal's preference to pay £100 million across a period of four years. The Hammers would, instead, prefer to receive the funds across 18 months as they seek to build on a successful European campaign.

Romano adds that there is no change in the agreed fee, which stands at a whopping £105 million and will make Rice the most expensive British player ever.

Chelsea

With Mount seemingly all but out the Stamford Bridge exit door, it will come as little surprise to hear that Chelsea have begun to eye up replacements for their outgoing academy graduate.

Reports state that the Londoners will, once more, turn to Brighton in a bid to improve their fortunes, particularly in the form of Moises Caicedo.

Having impressed under Roberto De Zerbi last season, Caicedo was the subject of immense interest from Arsenal during the January transfer window before a deal broke down but he now looks likely to leave again.

According to Romano, 'direct talks' between Chelsea and Brighton have commenced. Such talks are said to differ from traditional negotiations as both clubs hope to come to a swift conclusion.

Tottenham Hotspur

After confirming the arrivals of Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison in recent days, Tottenham Hotspur seem to have turned their attention to outgoings. The future of star striker Harry Kane is a major talking point.

It became well-established recently that Bayern Munich made a sizeable offer for Kane and it is yet to be seen whether the England skipper would be keen to explore the move. Football.london state that the 29-year-old will meet new boss Ange Postecoglu to discuss his future when returning from a holiday in July.

Elsewhere in North London, it is claimed that Japhet Tanganga could be on the move with Luton Town and Atalanta both keen on his signature, while The Athletic notably claim that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be allowed to leave the club if a satisfactory offer is received.

Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone are said to be keen on the former Bayern and Southampton man.

Manchester City

Having seen club captain Ilkay Gundogan join Barcelona upon the expiry of his contract, Pep Guardiola acted swiftly to replace the German international with Chelsea's Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

However, the Spaniard is not done yet after winning an incredible treble. It is believed that City are keen on adding RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol to their ranks after the 21-year-old enjoyed a tremendous World Cup campaign in Qatar.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: "Manchester City will keep working on Josko Gvardiol deal next week. Talks will enter into advanced stages with Leipzig with a new verbal bid.

"Personal terms, 100% agreed. Gvardiol said yes. Leipzig want at least €100m."

Newcastle United

Eddie Howe and co are expected, once again, to be active in the summer window as they look to compete in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Therefore, it was little surprise to see that the Magpies are set to complete a deal for exciting Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, who will join the club once he returns from international duty at the under-21 European Championships.

The Magpies have also been credited with an interest in RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai but appear to have pulled out due to competition from Liverpool.

According to the Northern Echo, too former Liverpool full-back Javi Manquillo is set to depart St James' Park, with two unnamed clubs from Spain keen on bringing Manquillo back to his homeland.
