Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police hours before Miami’s Sunday Week 1 matchup with Jacksonville.
ESPN reported Hill was stopped for speeding near Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., adding he got into a verbal altercation with police before briefly being placed in handcuffs.
Hill was cited for reckless driving and released from custody over two hours before kickoff.
“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released,” the Dolphins said in a statement.
“Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.
Hill was dressed out and participated in team warmups with the rest of the Dolphins before kickoff.

Hill, 30, joined Miami in 2022 after spending six seasons with Kansas City. He has produced 238 receptions for 3,509 yards and 20 touchdowns in 33 games with the Dolphins, bringing his career totals to 717 catches for 10,139 yards and 76 touchdowns.
The Jaguars’ Week 1 matchup with the Dolphins is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
