While Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been in the league’s concussion protocol since sustaining a hit to the head on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, it wasn’t official that he wouldn’t play in Week 17 against the New England Patriots.
However, to open his media availability on Friday, head coach Mike McDaniel has officially declared Tagovailoa out for the matchup. Veteran backup Teddy Bridgewater will get the start and seventh-round rookie Skylar Thompson will back him up.

This will be Tagovailoa’s third missed start of the season, with both other quarterbacks starting one each.
Miami could clinch a postseason berth this week, but they’ll have to do so without their starting quarterback.
