Dog wearing Knicks jersey shot dead by LA cops after reports of ‘screaming woman’ were actually basketball fans celebrating

A dog wearing a Knicks jersey was shot dead by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers during an NBA championship celebration.

Bodycam footage released by the force shows officers approaching the apartment building in Canoga Park on 13 June, after they received reports of a woman screaming.

Marie Marseille can be seen stepping out to speak to the officers, whilst her two-year-old golden Saint Bernard doodle, named Jameson, runs to the doorway and loudly barks.

Ms Marseille closes her door briefly after being asked to secure her dog. “I ain’t getting bit by that, bro” says one officer as he raises his pistol.

When she reappears, she reassures officers that her dog is “not aggressive”. Jameson then “charges” towards the officer holding the pistol. The officer then fires four times at the dog.

The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services was notified, responded to the scene, and took custody of Jameson.

An investigation into the Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) is ongoing.
