While humans can spend years trying to earn another person's trust, many dogs would trust their owners with their lives almost immediately. Most dogs are fiercely loyal to their owners and would do anything to protect them from harm's way. But they don't always receive the same kindness in return.
A woman has been left heartbroken after spotting a loyal dog waiting in the exact location where he last saw his owner. The poor pooch, who has been named Thunder, didn't realise his owners had abandoned him and weren't ever going to come back. Founder of Logan's Legacy Suzette Hall was called out to a residential street in California, America, after receiving a message about a dog who had been sitting by a fire hydrant all weekend.
Suzette said: "When I got there, there he was sitting. The poor baby sat loyal and waited.
"He would frantically run a little away as if he was looking for someone and then go right back to the hydrant
"My heart sank when I saw him. He would run across the street looking. There were so many cars speeding down that street."
The poor dog was extremely thirsty after sitting out in the Californian heat for days on end.
"I gave him water and he drank it so fast," she added. "The neighbour said they had been trying to get him for days.
"Well, nothing smells better than a hotdog when you are starving so I set my trap and he circled it forever.
"I drove down the street to make him feel safe to go in and when I came back to check, there he was safe in my trap."
After Suzette managed to get hold of Thunder, she took him to a vets where he was given food, water and a warm bed.
Thankfully, it didn't take long for him to be adopted and he soon made the journey across the East Coast to meet his new family.
She added: "His new family fell in love instantly. The day he arrived was the best day of his new parents' lives. He was happy too.
"They were so excited to get him - they got him matching Lakers gear, and they take him on boat rides. Thunder is living is best forever after."
Suzette founded Logan's Legacy in memory of her late dog and says she "feels him lead her to animals in need through street rescue".
