Dog does handstands while going to the loo to 'avoid getting feet wet'

While most dogs will just cock their leg up to relieve themselves, one clever pup has a very unusual tactic.

Pomeranian Panda performs handstands whenever he needs a wee - and his owner says it's to avoid treading in his own mess.

The acrobatic five-year-old pup hates getting his paws covered in pee, and will balance on his front two legs in an attempt to prevent it.

Owner Tracy Thompson, 58, from Cheadle, Staffordshire, explained: "I don't know why he started doing it.

"He used to have very long hair and he got black skin alopecia - which some Pomeranians can get.

"When he had long hair he used to hate peeing on himself when he cocked his leg, so he started doing handstands.

"Then that continued, and now when he wees he'll walk for ages down the path as well to avoid the mess - sometimes he can go quite a long way!

Locals find Panda's technique "hilarious" and he is often spotted doing handstands on walks down the road.

In the funny video, the Pomeranian can be seen lifting up onto his front paws and walking in a straight line, with a trail of pee behind him.

The tiny white dog's hind legs are much higher than his head, but he still manages to remain balanced until he is finished weeing.

Tracy, the dog's grandmother, added: "An ordinary dog might just cock their leg and continue on their way, Panda though can just go on and on and on - the longer he's done it the further he's gone."

Another clever pooch is stunning pet owners this week with his natural talent for playing tennis and ping pong.

Two-year-old cocker spaniel Leo has incredibly learnt how to grip the racket handle between his teeth and play ball.

Dog lovers are desperate to find out his training secrets - but owner Emily Anderson, 31, was just as surprised as them.

She said: "I ordered the tennis racket with a short handle. It arrived, I unpacked it and gave the racket to him.

"As with ping pong I asked him to back away, showed him the ball, threw it at him and he hit it for the first time.

"He just knew what he was doing, it really surprised me. I sat there for five minutes like 'what the hell just happened?"

Emily added: "He might not quite give Andy Murray or Rafael Nadal a run for his money but it's fun. It makes people smile."
