On the evidence of Tuesday night’s Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund, there is life in this Chelsea side under Graham Potter yet.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz helped the Blues overturn a first-leg deficit to reach the last eight of the competition for a third season in a row. The victory even had Potter channelling his inner Jurgen Klopp to fist-pump a frenzied Stamford Bridge crowd. Marc Cucurella was even awarded the man-of-the-match award. It felt like a turning point.
But was it enough to forget what has come before it? A squad packed with multi-million pound talent - some would say too much - had only picked up one win in 2023 before edging past Leeds at the weekend. The two goals against Dortmund were the first time the Blues had scored more than once in a match since beating Bournemouth 2-0 in December - a run of 13 games. It’s been bleak.
