Baseball teams dressing up in costumes for their final road trip of the regular season has become an annual tradition. Amid the typical collection of video game icons, TV and movie characters and internet memes, Dodgers coaches opted for a local reference after the team’s four-game series at Colorado on Thursday night.
Manager Dave Roberts and his staff dressed up like Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders as the team left Denver. He told ESPN’s Buster Olney that the inspiration to don hats and sunglasses came as Coach Prime and his Buffs became the biggest story in college football.
Roberts wore a white cowboy hat with a long-sleeve CU T-shirt, as he was deemed the “Prime” of the Dodgers’ universe by director of player performance Brandon McDaniel. Other coaches wore regular caps with their T-shirts or dressed as Sanders’s security detail.

Making Roberts’s ensemble even more authentic was a pair of Blender sunglasses sent by Sanders to Coors Field when he learned of the Dodgers’ fun plans.
The only holdout for the Coach Prime theme was pitching coach Mark Prior, who apparently couldn’t bring himself to dress in Colorado gear with the Buffaloes set to play USC this weekend. Prior, a Trojans alum, instead dressed up like USC coach Lincoln Riley.
