Do the Raiders need to add a receiver this offseason?

The Raiders were hyper-aggressive in the offseason last year as they totally rebuilt their offense with the addition of Davante Adams. That move proved to be smart as Adams had the best season of his career with the Raiders.

But one move that went a bit under the radar was the addition of Mack Hollins. The career special teams player developed into the No. 2 receiver on the offense and made a bunch of big plays for the Raiders. But he is scheduled to hit free agency and could be in for a nice pay raise.

So that begs the question; do the Raiders need to add another receiver this offseason to pair with Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow? The answer is yes. Here is what Kevin Patra of NFL.com had to say about the wide receiver need for the Raiders:

“Renfrow struggled with injury in Josh McDaniels’ first season as head coach, catching just 36 passes for 330 yards in 10 games. Could his production dry up without Carr force-feeding him on third downs?

Hollins generated the best season of his journeyman career (57 catches, 690 receiving yards, four receiving TDs) and got a host of shots in McDaniels’ offense. Given the 29-year-old’s trajectory (56 total catches in four seasons prior to 2022), it shouldn’t be that costly to bring him back in 2023.”

The good news is that the Raiders don’t need to add a top-end receiver to their unit. Adams is arguably the best receiver in the league and Renfrow has proven to be a Pro Bowl player in the slot. But those are the only two veteran receivers under contract for the 2023 season.

Look for the Raiders to add a mid-level free agent at wide receiver this offseason and for them to add depth via the draft on Day 2 and Day 3, especially if Hollins leaves in free agency.
