Distraught woman misses exam after revengeful husband messes with her alarm

As anyone who has ever sat an important exam will undoubtedly know, making sure you feel rested and well-prepared beforehand is super important.

Unfortunately, one student claims to have found herself being less than supported by her husband, who wouldn't take no for an answer when she explained she couldn't come along to his friend's birthday party the night before her exam.

The studious woman, who is in the final year of university, says she wanted to cram some last-minute revision in before nodding off, and so didn't give in to his pleas.

Her husband, who has frequently complained about her prioritising studying over socialising, begged her to come along for "just one hour", claiming his pal would be upset if she didn't go along.

She stood firm, and he quickly began to sulk, branding her "selfish and inconsiderate." Afterward, she assumed the matter was dropped, little imagining he would go as far as to take revenge for the rescinded invite.

The 23-year-old woman, who is a heavy sleeper, ended up staying up late packing in the revision and made sure to set an alarm for the following morning, bright and early.

However, upon awaking, she completely "freaked out", realising it was 9 am and she was already late for her exam. After checking her alarm, she saw it had mysteriously been changed to go off at 9:30 am.

Taking to Reddit, the stressed student - who goes by the username u/CharlieOutlaw23 - recalled the moment she twigged her husband had deliberately tried to sabotage her education out of spite.

She wrote: "I had no idea how this happened until my husband told me he did this to repay me for refusing to take one, one hour to attend the party so he took this hour from my time.

"I couldn't believe it I absolutely blew up at him just yelling and screaming at him left and right. He just stood there shocked by my reaction and my rage. I got dressed quickly and rushed to the university.

"They didn't let me into the exam hall. I got into a lot of hassle to get them to re-schedule the exam especially since I had no legit reason as to why I was late. It was awful is all I can say."

The unnamed woman and her husband now aren't speaking, and he claims to have been left hurt and "traumatised" by her angry reaction.

He's even gone as far as to claim she deserved to be "taught a lesson" for turning down social events in the two-week run-up to her big exam.

She's now reached out to fellow Reddit users to ask whether he might have a point. Unsurprisingly, they've largely been left horrified by his actions, believing there was no justification whatsoever for what he did.

One person wrote: "My husband and I started dating around the time of my second Master's and got married after I had completed it. Now I'm in a Ph.D. program. Through all of it, I've had to work insanely hard but never has the man complained once.

"Your partner should be understanding the importance of your education and career. I strongly suggest rethinking living with this man."

Another stated: "The thing is he'll sabotage her career for the sake of a party, or leave her to babysit when they have children making her miss an important meeting. All this while not even working knowing they depend on her income.

"She needs to run. This isn't a 'one mistake', this is his personality."
