Disruption ahead for motorists as major Swansea road to close every night until early February

A major Swansea road is to be closed in the evenings over the coming days, with motorists being warned of disruption ahead. A section of Townhill Road, in a south westerly direction from its junction with Gors Avenue to its junction with Gwent Road, will be closed between 6pm and midnight from now until Friday, February 3.

The closure, which came into effect on Sunday night, covers a distance of approximately 1.3 kilometres, and the alternative route for traffic will be via Gors Avenue and Gwent Road. There will be no access or egress to and from Townhill Road at its junctions with Elgen Crescent, Teilo Road, Emlyn Road, Mayhill Road, Alun Road, Carig Road, Cadrawd Road, Tegid Road, and Granogwen Road.

Access for emergency vehicles and pedestrians, however, will be maintained at all times throughout the periods of closure, which will be in place to allow the council's maintenance teams to resurface the road. A statement from Swansea Council read: "We’ll be closing a section of Townhill Road from 6pm on Sunday, January 29, so our highways maintenance teams can start the planned resurfacing scheme. The closure will be in place until midnight each night and will be between the junctions of Gors Avenue and Gwent Road. Motorists should follow the diversions during the works. We’re aiming to complete the improvements by Friday, February 3."
