Avatar fans looking to re-watch the 2009 movie ahead of the sequel are out of luck, as Disney+ has removed the film from the streaming platform.
The blockbuster movie will be getting a theatrical re-release in September ahead of the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, which will hit movie theatres in December this year.
As reported by What’s On Disney Plus, the quiet removal of Avatar from Disney+ has probably been done to encourage subscribers to watch it in cinemas before the sequel arrives.

The special edition of Avatar with remastered picture and sound will be released next month, nearly 13 years after audiences were awed by the exotic planet Pandora.
The James Cameron directed film continues to hold the record as the highest-grossing movie of all time, pulling in $2.845 billion worldwide.
But the removal of the movie from the platform will be unpopular with subscribers, as it has dominated streaming charts in recent months.
It has ranked in the top 10 streamed movies in countries outside the US for more than 100 days in 2022, claims FlixPatrol.
While it isn’t uncommon for Disney to remove titles because of contractual obligations to competing streaming services, this removal has happened globally.
The much-anticipated sequel will be focused around the oceans of the planet Pandora, where Jake Sully lives with his newfound family.
A familiar threat will return and Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na'vi race to protect their planet.
In aDecember interview, director James Cameron expressed concerns that the sequel wouldn’t make any money, he said: “Big, expensive films have got to make a lot of money.
“We’re in a new world post-Covid, post-streaming. Maybe those [box office] numbers will never be seen again. Who knows? It’s all a big roll of the dice.”
