Police set up an investigation cordon around a semi-detached home in Teesside, as neighbours claimed to hear a "disgusting shooting" at the house.
Officers from Cleveland Police rushed to Wilton Way in Eston in the early hours of this morning.
The front window of the property - which locals said belongs to an elderly woman - had been smashed.
A person living nearby said they woke up when they heard a "loud bang" and "a motorbike making off".
Another neighbour told TeesideLive: "It's disgusting that people are using guns in this country - let alone shooting at an old woman's house.
"I hope whoever is responsible is caught fast.
"We never get much trouble round here and lately it's all you hear about."
One more person said: "I'm glad the 80-year-old woman got out of the house safe but it must have been awful for her to have been in bed and hearing shots fired at your house.
"Her son came and collected her."
A video published by TeessideLive shows officers searching the front garden of the property.
The broken window was boarded up while the investigation was carried out.
The Mirror has contacted Cleveland Police for comment.
