Disgusted Aldi shoppers say popular 65p sauce 'tastes like mud'

Aldi customers say they have been left disgusted after eating a popular sauce from the budget supermarket which tasted like 'mud'. Disgruntled shoppers have taken aim at the store's Cucina Bolognese pasta sauce for ruining their dinners.

The 65p sauce has been slammed by consumers who claim it smells 'funny' and tastes 'mouldy' despite not being out of date until 2024. A sickened shopper shared a picture of the jars of sauce on social media asking if anyone else had problems.

They were met with a flood of comments from others claiming to have had a similarly bad experience with the budget product, reports MyLondon. The original post on the Aldi UK Facebook page read: "Just cooked dinner and it has a funny taste to it!

"Smelled the jars of the sauce and it has a funny smell to it! Not very happy that the whole dinner in the bin only bought them yesterday and date is 2024. Anyone else had this problem??."

One shopper agreed, commenting: "Me, it tastes like mud! I wasted a whole meal yesterday as I didn’t realise until I’d put it in." Another wrote: "My daughter loves this sauce for Bolognese … I made this Saturday and we both couldn't eat it for that exact reason it had a awful taste to it."

A fellow Facebook user commented: "I had exactly the same tonight, it had a really funny smell/taste to it." One shopper claimed: "I have had this problem I have always used them but lately it's not right my four kids an me said the same thing when I cooked it."

Someone else, who suffered a similar problem, said: "We had this sauce the other night, and it tasted funny."

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Our Cucina Bolognese Pasta Sauce is incredibly popular, and complaints of this nature are extremely rare. We would encourage any customer who is not fully satisfied with this product to return it to their local Aldi store for a full refund.”
