A DISGRUNTLED ScotRail passenger has baffled staff for more than a decade by leaving bizarre Post-It notes on trains.
The male culprit, described by staff as a "mysterious, eccentric hater", is believed to deposit the notes on the Glasgow Queen Street to Anniesland service, alighting at Possilpark.
One ScotRail worker, a member of the train crew working on the Anniesland line, said the unusual situation had been "going on for a long time", estimating that the notes have been left on the same service for around 15 years.
The Post-It notes, while varied in content, all target the ScotRail staff, calling them various insults and hitting out at "stupid train times".
"Once again you pieces of shit you've made me miss the Balloch train you useless assholes", one note reads.
Another says: "Once again ScotFail you useless c***s made me miss the Balloch train again! Your lucky yesterday I was at the dentist!"
The notes also brand the staff as "pathetic morons", "fatasses" and "useless idiots".
The ScotRail worker said staff have collected the "odd" man's notes and "generally find it funny", displaying the Post-Its on the train crew staff room at Glasgow Queen Street, called the "bothy".
"The wall was covered in his Post-It notes, each representing a daily gripe," they added.
"Jokes have been made about him having 'bodies at home', as though he is a serial killer. But that kind of dark humour is typical on the railway, as we also have to deal with an increasing number of fatalities too."
While the Post-It notes might bring some humour to the ScotRail staff, it reflects a wider increase in the level of abuse workers are facing on Scotland's railway network.
The ScotRail staff member continued: "Although this guy seems harmless, his language is very aggressive and his commitment to abusing staff on a daily basis is actually quite sinister.
"Someone has recently removed a whole swathe of notes from the bothy wall, but there has been no attempt to investigate this or to try to catch the culprit, so the abuse continues.
"Against this is a backdrop where several ScotRail staff have been abused and physically assaulted, myself included, in the past year."
They continued: "We work inside trains alone, dealing with hundreds of people on journeys, often very intoxicated.
"We are issued with 'spit kits' to try and collect saliva evidence if we are spat on, and we can wear body worn cameras, but we are still vulnerable to abuse."
A ScotRail spokesperson said: "ScotRail takes the safety of its customers and staff extremely seriously, and works closely with the British Transport Police, Network Rail, and other partners to identify and address areas where issues such as anti-social behaviour (ASB), trespass, or abuse towards staff is being experienced."
