New proposals could see direct train services running between Newcastle and Brighton, connecting the north-east coast of England with the south coast.

Arriva Group announced plans to operate the route under its Grand Central brand, with trains calling at key stations such as York, Sheffield, Birmingham New Street, Oxford, Reading, and Gatwick Airport.
