Celtic icon Dion Dublin couldn't hide his shock at Ecuador's opening goal in their clash against Qatar on Sunday afternoon in the first game of the World Cup - citing he had 'no idea' as to the officials' decision to rule out the goal.
With tensions building up ahead of the hotly-anticipated tournament, the teams took to the pitch in Al-Khor with Qatari fans expecting an upset on their first ever appearance in the competition. Yet they were left stunned after just three minutes when former West Ham star Enner Valencia took advantage of some seriously poor Qatar defending to seemingly go 1-0 up.
After a lengthy VAR check, the goal was ruled out much to the surprise of most people watching. And former Celtic star Dublin summed the thoughts of the public up superbly by becoming absolutely dumbfounded at the decision to rule the goal out. Dublin said on commentary for the BBC: "It's the loudest the stadium has been!"
"That's amazing. I'm just going to have a look at this now. The offside has come from...I can't see where it's come from!
"From those pictures we've seen, I can't see an offside. I don't know what. Is it a push on the keeper maybe, a foul? I can't see any infringement whatsoever. I don't know why that's been disallowed, no idea at all."
Valencia wouldn't be kept at bay for long. He became the leading World Cup scorer for his country when he netted from the penalty spot later in the opening half.
