Diomande earns Ivory Coast international recognition for upcoming AFCON qualifiers

Mohamed Diomande has been called up by the Ivory Coast for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Rangers midfielder pledged his international allegiance to Ivory Coast in June after doing a U-turn on a sensational switch to represent Ghana earlier this year.

Diomande earned his first two senior caps during World Cup qualifying cameos versus Kenya and Gabon this summer and should add to that tally when his nation go head-to-head with Zambia and Chad on September 6 and 10.

The 22-year-old has featured six times for Rangers this season, and manager Philippe Clement appears to see Diomande as Connor Barron's partner in the centre of the pitch.  

Rangers fans will be praying he returns from the international break unscathed with the focus firmly on stopping Celtic's domestic dominance.
