The Mess in Wythenshawe had no idea it was the top rated cafe in Manchester. That was until a customer came in around six months ago and told them the good news.
“They said they had just flown into Manchester Airport and found us because we were voted number one on Tripadvisor,” says Sam Hawthorne, whose dad Andy set up the charity that runs the cafe 30 years ago.
It’s understandable given the remit of this community cafe, which was launched ten years ago. Part of the Message Trust Charity, it provides training and employment to ex-offenders, those at risk of offending, as well as those who find that they have significant barriers to employment and need a helping hand.
