Dimitar Berbatov has urged Manchester United to sign either Andre Onana or Mike Maignan if David de Gea leaves this summer.
United look set to lose De Gea when his contract expires at the end of the month, with talks over a new deal ongoing for some time but showing little progress. The club did have an option to extend the Spaniard's contract for another 12 months but were hoping to reduce his £375,000-per-week wages.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United do want to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper, with some figures at the club keen to 'move on' from De Gea. Reds boss Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, will see this as an opportunity to sign someone who better fits his demands in possession.
Several options have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with Onana regularly mentioned. And Berbatov believes the Inter star and Maignan would both be great options.

"If David de Gea was to leave this summer, then I’d like them to sign either André Onana or AC Milan’s Mike Maignan," Berbatov told Betfred. "These two goalkeepers are unbelievable and Onana impressed everybody who was watching the Champions League final in regards to his composure on the ball and his passing ability.
"They will have to see what his availability’s like and as he impressed me so much, I would hope that Manchester United enquire about him.”
Onana is attracting interest across the Premier League, with Chelsea and Tottenham both eyeing a new first-choice goalkeeper. The Cameroon international did play under Ten Hag during the pair's time at Ajax.
Brentford's David Raya and Diogo Costa of Porto have also been linked with a move in recent weeks, while United were said to be readying a bid for Jordan Pickford - albeit the England international is thought to be happy at Everton.
