Paramount+ with Showtime has unveiled first-look images for its upcoming Dexter prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin. The photos offer a glimpse into the younger versions of the original show's central characters, with Patrick Gibson portraying Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, and Molly Brown as Debra Morgan.
This 10-episode thriller is set 15 years before the introduction of Michael C. Hall's Dexter character and delves into the backstory of the young serial killer in training. Hall, who also serves as an executive producer for the prequel series, previously portrayed the iconic TV character in the original Showtime series that aired from 2006 to 2013 and in the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood.
Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips returns in the same capacity for Dexter: Original Sin. The series is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Gibson) as he navigates the transition from student to avenging serial killer. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), Dexter adopts a Code to help him identify and eliminate individuals who he believes deserve to be removed from society without attracting law enforcement attention. This proves to be a significant challenge for young Dexter as he embarks on a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The ensemble cast includes Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt. Additionally, guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar will appear as Tanya Martin in the series.
Dexter: Original Sin is executive produced by showrunner Phillips and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Other executive producers include Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. The series is produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis, with Michael Lehmann serving as the directing executive producer.
