Devshayani Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Ashadha month. This is said to be the golden entrance day for sadhana during the season of Chaturmas when discipline and devotion are the most important factor in the sadhana according to religious doctrines and is considered as the day Lord Vishnu gets into yoga nidra (divine sleep) in the ocean of milk (Kshirsagar) till the day of Prabodhini ekadashi (Kartiki ekadashi).
