Major plans for nearly 50 homes on a derelict factory site in Neport have been submitted. Proposals for 48 flats and houses on the site of the former Newpack Export Packing warehouse on Factory Road have been submitted to Newport City Council this week.
The plans, submitted this week by agents Interstand Ltd on behalf of Philippa Cole planning consultants, include 20 one-bed apartments, 20 two-bed apartments and eight two-bed houses with parking and amenities. The Newpack warehouse site, located near the revamped former sorting office behind Newport Station, has been empty for some time and has fallen into disrepair in recent years.
According to the application, two thirds of the flats and houses will be affordable housing and will offer the chance to redevelop a long-empty site for the community's benefit, as well as offering affordable housing in a mixed tenure development.
