Devastating Edinburgh photos show aftermath of fire at 'pandemic hero' shop

Devastating pictures show destruction from a blaze that ripped through an Edinburgh store on Monday evening.

The fire was a tragic blow to the shop that was raided in April last year, leaving the owners with £20,000 of damage and losses.

Day Today in Drylaw went the extra mile to help families during the pandemic by giving free care packages to the elderly, hand sanitiser and supplies to hero NHS workers and food packages to those struggling through lockdown.

Sadly they were ransacked by heartless thugs who trashed the store while stealing thousands of pounds of ciggies and booze just last year.

The local newsagents went up in flames just after midnight last night and took four fire engines to control the blaze - with another staying till morning to monitor the situation.

Firefighters required a large lift to put out the roaring inferno and broke down the shop roof to stop it spreading to buildings next door.

The saddening pictures show the devastation left in the well-loved store which now lies empty - a picture of decay with emergency services still at the scene.

Police tape can be seen closing the area to the public.

Debris from the fire is scattered around the shop entrance.
