Detroit Lions Release Cornerback Cameron Sutton Amid Domestic Battery Allegations

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have made the decision to release cornerback Cameron Sutton amidst an ongoing search by Florida police for the 29-year-old NFL player, who is wanted on allegations of domestic battery.

The announcement of Sutton's release came just one day after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release seeking the public's assistance in locating him. Law enforcement authorities have stated that Sutton is wanted for domestic battery by strangulation.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office revealed that a warrant was issued on March 7 following a domestic violence incident involving Sutton and an unidentified female. The warrant was served based on the evidence gathered at the scene of the incident. Despite efforts to locate Sutton in Tampa, he has not been found, leading authorities to believe he may have fled the area.

Sutton had signed a lucrative $33 million, three-year contract with the Lions last season after spending six years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played a significant role in the Lions' success, contributing to the team's division title win, the first in thirty years, and their advancement in the playoffs, a feat not achieved since 1957.

During the regular season, Sutton started all 17 games, recording a career-high 65 tackles and one interception. He also started in all three playoff games for the team.
