A woman’s body has been found by detectives in south east London.

Police were scrambled to Canute Gardens, Bermondsey, at just after 8.20pm on Wednesday.

Officers were alerted over a ‘concern for safety’ call and forced entry to the property.

A police statement said: “A 53-year-old man inside the property was also found injured.

“He was arrested on suspicion of murder before being treated at the scene by paramedics from London Ambulance Service and then taken to hospital. He was discharged following treatment and remains in custody at a south London police station.

“Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have been informed.

“The man and the woman are believed to be known to each other.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

Forensic officers have been scouring the crime scene for clues while officers have been carrying out door to door inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
