Destiny Udogie withdraws from Italy squad in latest Tottenham injury concern

Tottenham left-back Destiny Udogie has withdrawn from the Italy squad as he continues to struggle with a muscle injury picked up against Fulham last month.

Udogie, 20, was forced off in the 2-0 victory over Cottagers and subsequently missed the win at Crystal Palace.

The left-back returned to the side for Spurs' disastrous 4-1 defeat to Chelsea last Monday having barely trained in the build-up, and was sent off for two bookings in a difficult outing.

He was subsequently ruled out of Saturday's game at Wolves, which Spurs lost 2-1, through suspension, but has now pulled out of Italy's crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti revealed his withdrawal is down to injury.

His absence from the Azzurri's double-header leaves him as a possible doubt when Spurs return to action at home to Aston Villa on November 26.

Ange Postecoglou, the Spurs head coach, is facing a mounting injury crisis at present, with Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Richarlison all sidelined long-term.

Cristian Romero will serve the second of a three-match ban against Villa, having been shown a straight red card against Chelsea.

Spurs played a makeshift defence at Molineux, with Ben Davies and Eric Dier starting in the middle and Emerson Royal filling in for Udogie at left-back.
