Destiny Udogie 'amazing' claim from Udinese team-mate will have Tottenham fans excited

Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic has told Tottenham to expect the arrival of the best left-back in Italy when Destiny Udogie links up with the club this summer.

Spurs signed Udogie just under a year ago from the Serie A side before loaning him back in a deal that saw the north London club pay an initial £15m to Udinese for the then 19-year-old left-back and that fee could rise to £18m including add-ons. The Italy U21 international will finally arrive at Hotspur Way for pre-season in July to work under the next Tottenham head coach, having signed when Antonio Conte was in charge.

Samardzic believes that Spurs will not only be getting one of the best players in Italy right now but one who will make huge splash in their team.

"Udogie is the best left back in Serie A for me. He can do everything," he told The Italian Football Podcast. "I think he will be an important player for Tottenham next year. He is an amazing player."

Udogie, now 20-years-old, has played 33 times for Udinese this season, starting almost every match, with 2,665 minutes to his name and three goals and four assists from left wing-back and he has earned plenty of praise for his performances as one of Serie A's top young players, taking him to the cusp of the national team.

The Verona-born defender missed out on Udinese's penultimate game of the season at the weekend - a 3-2 defeat at Salernitana - after picking up his fifth yellow card last week. He was on the wrong end of a strange quirk of Italian football because he collected four yellow cards in his first six matches of the season but has not had a booking since September.

Yet Serie A rules appear to have no cut off date during a season so when Udogie picked up his next yellow card eight months later he ended up missing last Sunday's game through an accumulation of five yellow cards.

Udogie will now play his last game for 12th-placed Udinese on Sunday as they host Juventus in their final match of the Serie A season.
