Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu on Tuesday announced that France will impose new curfews where required, after the measures introduced in several cities the previous day had "helped keep the night calm". The Interior Ministry has announced that 123 people have been jailed in connection to the weekend's violence and looting.

Saturday saw France rocked by some of its worst rioting in years, following several weeks of student demonstrations over poor conditions in high schools – just six months before the country is due to elect a successor to President Emmanuel Macron.
