MUMBAI: Managing the Covid pandemic requires huge finances, but the public health department of Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has spent just 46.7% of the budgetary allocation this financial year.
“There is barely a month left, and the department can at best increase the spending to 60%. But the point is why this constricted spending in the time of a pandemic?” said Ravi Duggal of Jan Arogya Abhiyan, which analysed the actual expenditures on the health sector by the state in 2021-22.
