Desperate search for missing Scots woman launched as police appeal for information

Police and coastguard units have launched a joint search for a missing Scots woman. Sharon O’Neill was last seen near the Northlink Ferry Terminal on Holmsgarth Road, Lerwick at around 7pm on Sunday, November 13.

Police say they are growing "increasingly concerned" for Sharon's welfare, and her family are "understandably worried".

Extensive enquiries are underway to locate her, however, she has yet to be traced. Officers are continuing searches today. The 46-year-old is described as being 5ft 5 inches tall, with light brown hair and glasses. She was last seen wearing jeans and a black coat.

Police are asking people on the island to check their outbuildings, garages and garden sheds in case Sharon has sought shelter.

Inspector Sam Greshon said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Sharon and we would appeal to anyone who knows where she is to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting 0788 of Monday, 14 November, 2022.”

Orkney and Shetland coastguard added in a statement: "Coastguard rescue teams are currently searching in Lerwick for a missing person."
