Derry vs Donegal: Oak Leaf supporters united in praise for Ulster final song

Derry GAA fans are set to flock to Clones for the Ulster football final in their thousands and there will be music in the air.

Oak Leaf supporter and singer Pearse Og McKeever has produced a song specially written for the team's appearance in the Ulster final for the first time in over a decade.

Fermanagh native Rory Gallagher is the manager who has guided sleeping giants Derry back into the provincial final and he focal point of the chorus - "it's bananas, he left Fermanagh" sings McKeever.

Gallagher led his home county to the Ulster final four years ago and that also prompted a song for the occasion with John Slowey producing 'Wake me up when we win Ulster", which took the tune from an Avicii dance classic.

It's 24 years since Derry last claimed the Anglo Celt trophy so nobody could blame their success-starved fans from getting a little carried away right now.

Gallagher's side took down great rivals and All-Ireland champions Tyrone in the first round before overcoming Monaghan in the semi-final to set up a clash with Donegal this Sunday in Clones.

The game is set to be a 28,000 sellout and McKeever and Derry have a new list of heroes to get excited about.

Shane McGuigan, Conor Glass and Benny Herron all feature prominently in the song and McKeever saves the best part for the chorus, set alongside the tune of popular K'Naan tune 'When I get older, I will be stronger."

McKeever sings: "When we win Ulster, I will be full sir. Let's have a big cheer, for Rory Gallagher."

The song continues with Donegal getting a touch near the end: "Derry's back again, it's been our year again. The Donegal men, are bloody sh***ing it."

The song has been viewed almost 7,000 times since McKeever shared the video on Facebook and Derry fans are united in their praise.

"Absolutely brilliant Pearse, up Derry," wrote Pascal Hassan.

Kate Cremin added: "Wee tune for the road trip on Sunday."

"Class, catchy wee number," said Peter Brown.
