Derry to hold another vigil tonight for ongoing Ukraine crisis

A second vigil has been organised by the people of Derry to support people in Ukraine as it continues to fight against a Russian invasion.

The candlelit vigil has been planned for tonight, Tuesday, March 29 from 7.00pm until 8.00pm.

People packed Guildhall Square for a previous vigil heard earlier this month.

Since then, truckloads of aid from the city have made their way to the Ukrainian border with Poland.

Meanwhile, the community of Eglinton will come together on Saturday (April 2) for a 'Walk for Ukraine' event.

It's hoped that people will join Eglinton Annual Show ' to help raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine'.

In a fundraising statement, a spokesperson said: "The plan is to have a continuous stream of people walking around a 1.2-mile loop in the village.

"This is a great opportunity for the whole village to come together, raise money and support the people of Ukraine.

"Take part as an Individual, family or group and walk as many, or as few loops as you like. Or take part as a team and attempt to complete all 21 loops in a relay fashion (completing approx. a marathon).

"There is a suggested donation of £5 per loop (per group), however, you are free to donate whatever you can afford. Collection buckets will be available at Eglinton Primary School and you can donate online here."

If you would like to donate, you can do so HERE.
