Derry singer delves into favourite songs in BBC Takeover

Derry singer-songwriter SOAK has joined the BBC Takeover Mix team and given audiences a glimpse into their favourite tracks.

Speaking on the Takeover Mix, SOAK described the tracks as "music I really like right now. I guess I listen to most music when I am driving around, so it is driving music, let's call it that.

They said: "It covers a whole spectrum of sounds, there is a lot of stuff to cry to in there, a lot to dance to, maybe do the two at the same time."

The Takeover Mix is an eclectic mix of relaxing and energetic songs and is sure to widen the horizons of many listeners.

Speaking in between tracks, SOAK said: "I compiled this playlist with songs I found quite recently, I guess I am constantly on the search for new music and will always take recommendation from anyone because I just want it all.

"There is a song on this playlist called 'Pristine', by Snail Mail, which I am surprised I don't hate yet because my girlfriend and I, we got the album and listened to it probably 20 times in a row and this specific song she just kept repeating it.

"So I know everything about this song yet surprisingly still like it."

SOAK includes Irish band Pillow Queens in her playlist, who are accompanying SOAK on their upcoming tour.

They said: "It is so nice to see an Irish band surrounded by religion I'm sure to release a song about gay girls."

SOAK has been trailblazing the music scene since writing 'Sea Creatures', aged 14. Soak released their second album “Grim Town” in 2019 on Rough Trade.

They played around the world with the album, including performing their US network TV debut on the Seth Myers show.

They had recently been chosen to represent Northern Ireland during Independent Venue Week.

In this, they said: "It is an immense privilege to be part of something which was so important in my life, and which highlights the incredible role independent venues play in the cultural, creative and social capital of Northern Ireland."

During Independent Venue Week, SOAK came back to where it all began and played an intimate gig in Bennigan's Bar, Derry.
