Dermot Gallagher on the 'element of doubt' surrounding Leeds United penalty call

Dermot Gallagher believes there was too much of an element of doubt surrounding Leeds United's penalty claim against Brentford. Crysencio Summerville was dragged to the floor by Brentford’s Aaron Hickey in what Leeds United thought was a stonewall penalty.

Jesse Marsch was sent off for his remonstrations after the incident with VAR's decision to ignore the incident, adding to this weekend's controversy. The Premier League officials came under fire in games including Newcastle United's tie with Crystal Palace and West Ham's clash with Chelsea.

The Whites head coach will now miss the game against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road.

Gallagher told Sky Sports: "I think what happened here, the shirt pull he doesn't see, the VAR can't act. As he's going into the box he lets go and we come back to threshold, this is the dilemma we've had today, if he'd of pulled the shirt like he did, going into the box then without a doubt penalty.

"As he lets go of the shirt because of what he's seen, there's a little pull at the top a little clip of the heels there, has he clipped him or is he going forward? That's what's the element of doubt and I think the first one yes, but he can't give it because it's outside.

"The second one, maybe, but we can't give a maybe. Didn't hit the threshold so they played on. You're looking bemused."
