Derek McInnes’ Celtic red card claim obliterated by Dermot Gallagher as Oh challenge below 'dangerous' threshold

Former English Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has rubbished Derek McInnes' claim that Celtic striker Oh should have been shown red for a challenge on Liam Donnelly.

The Kilmarnock manger fumed at full-time after the South Korean striker attempted to get the ball under control by raising his foot which nearly made contact with the midfielder. McInnes called for consistency after Kyle Vassell was flashed a red card for the Ayrshire outfit earlier this season against Hibs for a similar challenge. Ange Postecoglou's Celtic side ran out 4-1 winners at Rugby Park after scoring four inside the first half hour of the game.

Killie pulled one back before half-time through Donnelly but it was a mere consolation. McInnes laid into his side during his post-match interview while also taking aim at the officials for not looking at the Oh incident on VAR. Gallagher did not agree with the Rugby Park boss during his Ref Watch debrief on Sky Sports News.

He said: "He (Oh) doesn't lead with the studs, he doesn't see the player coming so yellow card for me. Careless is free-kick only, reckless is free-kick yellow card and dangerous free-kick red card."

Gallagher was then asked if a boot in the head was reckless, he replied: "I think that is reckless, it's not a boot in the head is it? It is a boot that may hit his head but it didn't."

McInnes told Sky Sports following the Celtic showdown: "I thought there should've been a red card for Oh as well. We get Vassell sent off for a similar challenge at Easter Road and I don't know why VAR look because it's the same people on VAR that looked at the one at Easter Road."
