Derek Carr Says He Apologized to Saints OC Pete Carmichael for Sideline Blowup

Saints quarterback Derek Carr apologized to offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael for his explosion on the sideline during the fourth quarter of the Saints’ 20–13 loss to the Texans on Sunday.

video (warning: NSFW language) posted to social media showed Carr shouting in his exchange with Carmichael. However, the four-time Pro Bowler’s rage was not directly aimed at his offensive coordinator. After apologizing to Carmichael, Carr told reporters that he was “livid” exiting the field and that he was “talking to” his offensive coordinator rather than “talking about” him.

“Pete [Carmichael] and I know exactly what I was talking about, and why,” Carr said, per NOLA.com. “When the game is on the line, that’s when you have to be on every detail of your assignment. I was a little upset at some of those things. It had nothing to do with Pete. He just happened to be the one that walked up when I was a little angry. … Those little details, that if we do those things right you’re looking like ... oh my gosh ... we would have 28 points.”

Derek Carr explained the heated interaction with New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael during the team’s loss to the Houston Texans.

New Orleans (3–3) registered 430 yards of offense in Sunday’s loss. However, the Saints went 0-for-3 in the red zone and missed two key field goals.

Carr completed 32-for-50 passes with 353 yards and one touchdown, one interception and two sacks in the loss. The Saints will return to action on Thursday against the Jaguars.
