The rumored camp invite for unrestricted free agent wing Denzel Valentine is official according to recent reporting from The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Michigan State product was connected to the Boston Celtics in a training camp capacity earlier this month through a report coming from a local TV station out of his hometown of Lansing, Michigan, and now Charania has related that the former Maine Celtics player has signed an Exhibit 10 training camp deal.
Valentine was the 14th overall pick of the 2016 NBA draft of the Chicago Bulls, and played parts of four seasons with that team before signing a multi-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2021, only to be traded to the New York Knicks as part of a three-team trade that would see the Lansing native cut soon after.
After a short stint with the Utah Jazz, Valentine landed in Maine with Boston’s G League team, where he finished out the 2021-22 NBA season.

A career 36% shot from beyond the arc who has struggled to play a larger role at the NBA level, Valentine will be motivated to make Boston’s roster as a deep rotation option on the wing, one of the only areas of arguable weakness for the Celtics along with frontcourt depth.
