Dennis Quaid thinks Donald Trump is "very funny" and "really genuine".
The 71-year-old actor is in awe of the US president's energy levels and believes the controversial former Apprentice star puts the "best interests" of his supporters first.
During Dennis' appearance on Pastor Greg Laurie’s The Greg Laurie Show, the host described Trump as "very personable, incredibly funny, a good listener and surprisingly approachable person.”
His guest agreed: [He is] surprisingly approachable and very funny. And really genuine. He wouldn’t be president if he wasn’t genuine.
"The people who voted for him, they know that he has their best interests at heart, that he is a genuine person.
“I’ve never seen anybody with that kind of energy. People say that about me, but he’s really got a lot of energy.”
The Substance actor seemingly agreed with Greg's assessment that Hollywood has gone "extremely" left wing in recent times.
The pastor said: “Things have gone so extremely, so far left right now. I saw a podcast — it was Bill Maher and Dana Carvey, and I’m forgetting the other guy’s name — but anyway, I think it was Dana Carvey said, ‘I’ve told my friends in Hollywood I’m a Clinton Democrat, and some of them are calling me a Nazi now.’”
Dennis replied: “You can’t do that.
"Same thing as being a neo-con, on the right side or whatever. What used to be, you can’t be anymore.”
He noted later in the interview: “We’re going through a spiritual revolution. I’m not talking Republican and Democrat. But I am talking about those two coming together.”
Despite his praise for Trump, Dennis doesn't describe himself as a republican.
He said: “I’m a common-sense independent, myself. [I lean] more conservative in my head.
“I’m just for common sense, is really what I am."
Dennis has played two former presidents during his career, earning a string of award nominations for his depiction of Bill Clinton in 2010 HBO film The Special Relationship, and bringing Ronald Reagan to the big screen in 2024's biopic Reagan.
He confirmed he had stayed in the Queen's bedroom in the White House during a weekend with Clinton when he was president, and noted the residence serves "instant coffee in the morning”, which “really puts things in perspective.”
He added: “Pretty bad coffee."
