Democrats Outspend Republicans In Crucial House Races

U.S. Senate votes on aid, in Washington

Democrats have been leading in television advertising spending compared to Republicans in the crucial races that will determine control of the US House of Representatives. California and New York have emerged as the top states for ad spending by both parties, according to data from the first full month after the primary season.

Despite being traditionally Democratic states at the statewide level, California and New York are home to numerous highly contested House seats that played a pivotal role in Republicans securing a narrow majority two years ago.

External groups are significantly influencing the House race, with two prominent super PACs from each party collectively contributing around a quarter of the total $378 million spent on ads. Additionally, a super PAC funded by cryptocurrency interests, supporting a bipartisan group of pro-crypto candidates, injected an additional $15 million into the advertising landscape.

The advertisements from major spenders are reflecting the key issues driving voter sentiment, including the economy, abortion rights, immigration, and crime – all of which are crucial topics for voters.

Between September 11 and October 10, California and New York together accounted for approximately 29% of all ad spending directed at House races. Currently, ten House races in California and six in New York are considered competitive according to Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales.
