California Governor Gavin Newsom is currently in Washington, D.C. for a planned meeting with President Biden and other Democratic governors. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who leads the Democratic Governors Association, is also in attendance at the White House. Joining them are Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
According to sources, the governors are seeking a direct and candid conversation with President Biden to check on his well-being and discuss the future of his campaign. Governor Beshear emphasized the importance of meeting in person, stating that while Biden assures them he is doing well, face-to-face interactions are valuable.
Governor Pritzker echoed Beshear's sentiments, expressing his support for any decision Biden makes regarding his candidacy. He affirmed his commitment to Biden as the nominee unless Biden decides otherwise, highlighting the need for a constructive dialogue with the president.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. in the White House's Roosevelt Room. This gathering follows a recent call from Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a Democratic lawmaker from Texas, for Biden to withdraw from the race. Doggett referenced Biden's performance in the previous week's debate against former President Trump as a reason for his suggestion.
