President Joe Biden is set to convene a meeting with over 20 Democratic governors on Wednesday. This gathering is significant as it includes state leaders who have been speculated as potential replacements, as the current administration aims to address concerns within the party following a lackluster debate performance.
According to sources familiar with the meeting, notable governors planning to attend in person include Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, and Rhode Island Gov. Daniel McKee. Additionally, other governors such as North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro are expected to participate via Zoom or phone.
The White House has been contacted for a comprehensive list of attendees. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET in the Roosevelt Room and is closed to the press.
