The incident came to light on Tuesday evening when Mangolpuri police received a PCR call around 7 pm reporting a woman’s body found in a room at Patthar Market.
The main accused, identified as the woman’s alleged lover, was arrested along with his 50-year-old uncle and the uncle’s 52-year-old friend, all residents of Mangolpuri.
Police said the woman, also a Mangolpuri resident, worked as a domestic help. She is survived by her husband and three children. The accused reportedly runs a chicken shop near her residence.
Crime Details
On Tuesday around 4:30 pm, the woman visited the PG accommodation to meet the accused. The two stayed inside a room for about an hour, during which the other two men were also present at the property.
According to the PG owner, the 22-year-old had requested the room for a few hours to meet a woman. When he returned later in the evening, he found the room unlocked and the accused missing. Noticing a leg protruding from the bed box, he opened it and discovered the woman’s body, immediately alerting the police.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Western Range) Jatin Narwal said the body bore signs of strangulation and injuries on the forehead. It has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Sequence of Events
Senior police officials said the accused confessed to the killing, claiming he acted in a fit of rage. The crime reportedly occurred after the woman refused to be physically intimate with the uncle and his friend.
Investigators detailed that the accused allegedly forced the woman to the floor, pinning her with his hands and legs, smothered her with a blanket, and then strangled her. After the killing, he stuffed the body into a bed box, while his uncle and the uncle’s friend kept guard outside the room. They later assisted him in fleeing the crime scene.
Investigation
A case has been registered under Sections 103 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are also investigating whether the woman was subjected to sexual harassment by the three men before her death.
