The national capital experienced a scorching Wednesday as temperatures soared to unprecedented levels for the season, with the Ridge area recording a blistering maximum of 40.1 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest day of the year so far. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that several monitoring stations across Delhi hovered close to the 40-degree mark, signaling an unusually intense early summer heatwave.
Safdarjung, Delhi’s official weather station, registered a maximum temperature of 38.9 degrees Celsius, a staggering 7.4 degrees above the seasonal norm and the highest recorded this year at the site. Other key stations followed suit: Palam clocked in at 38 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road reached 38.7 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, maximum temperatures across most weather stations in the city ranged between six and nine degrees above normal.
