NEW DELHI: The capital recorded less than 1,000 new Covid cases for the third consecutive day. On Sunday, 804 new Covid-19 cases were recorded, taking the total caseload to more than 18.51 lakh.
There has been a further dip in the positivity rate as well. As per the daily health bulletin, the positivity rate has declined to 1.5%. The city also registered 12 more fatalities. With this, the death toll is at 26,072. A total of 53,719 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the city the previous day.
On Saturday, Delhi reported 920 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.68% and 13 deaths. On Friday, there were 977 cases with a positivity rate of 1.73% and 12 deaths. There were 1,104 cases in the city on Thursday, with a positivity rate above 2% and 12 deaths.
The number of daily cases in Delhi has been on the decline after touching a record high of 28,867 on January 13. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6% on January 14, the highest during the latest wave of the pandemic.
Currently, the active caseload remains at 3,926. Of these, 2,590 are under home isolation and 451 are admitted in different city-based Covid designated hospitals.
The number of containment zones has also gone down to 16,997. Further, the schools are set to reopen for nursery classes to class 8 from Monday onwards. Earlier, schools reopened for classes 9 to 12 on February 7.
Delhi reported its first case of Covid-19 in March 2020. Last year, in April-May, the city witnessed a massive second wave. The third wave started to peak at the beginning of this year and on January 13, Delhi recorded its highest-ever daily tally of 28,867 cases. The positivity rate rose to 30.6% on January 14, the highest during the ongoing wave of the pandemic.
